Adapted to the different ecosystems exploited, they allow the capture of live fishes most of the time and their conservation for different uses: restocking, supply of eel farms totally dependent on the fishing of juveniles in the natural environment.

The French sector is the main supplier of young eels on the European market (around 80% of European production).
